The film "Regresa" will be screened at the San Sebastián festival.

The Diario Vasco was informed that “Regresa”, the film partially shot in Valdegovía will be screened in Spain at the San Sebastián festival following the great reviews and publicity it gained after its premiere in Mexico.

In fact, “Regresa” had been seen by 4.4 million viewers by 24th January 2010, making it the 7th most viewed film in Mexico.

Information from EFE showed that: “the Basque language became a medium for falling in love in this Hispanic, Mexican film. From Mexican director Alejandro González Padilla (I Love Miami) this romantic comedy, shot in both Mexico and the Basque Country wants to jump to the screens of both countries by the next San Sebastián Film Festival, its director explained yesterday

With a cast of Mexican actors; Jaime Camil and Blanca Soto and the Spanish Javier Tolosa, the film tells the story of a young Mexican upper class marriage which starts to deteriorate over time. Ernesto del Valle (Camil) is a successful Mexican businessman married to María González (Blanca Soto) a beautiful housewife and daughter of Spanish immigrants. After hypnotic regression, Blanca starts to speak only in Basque with the belief that she is a princess from another century and unable to pronounce a single word of Castilian.

The trio is completed by Javier Tolosa, who plays a Basque chef at Iñaki Landáburu, a restaurant in the Mexican capital, hired to translate between the couple and even hired to travel to her homeland to maintain the communication between the married couple.
“Asko maite zaitut”

As a tribute to Basque, the film is subtitled in this language, asko maite zaitut (I love you so much), are words which the main character says as a last effort to get his wife back.

With a touch of humour and in order to be understood in Mexico and Spain, “Regresa” was shot in Mexican settings such as the Federal District and near to Valle de Bravo, in the centre of the country.

In the Basque Country the plot unravels in the Torre de Varona and in Villanañe (Álava) and the Torre de Mendoza and Casa de Cordón in Vitoria.
The script is by Alejandro González Padilla, who directed the film “I Love Miami”, with Juan Luis Galiardo as a main character who plays Fidel Castro overthrown after suffering an attack on the high seas.

The film; 95 minutes long and shot in 8 weeks costs 1.3million Euros and will receive recognition at the San Sebastián Festival.
